Every charity project we organise here at Momentum Fitness Charity, from exercise therapy for a child with cancer to community events, sits on top of hours of unseen work that goes on behind the scenes. You wouldn’t believe how much planning goes into each project before we get it off the ground.
Ensuring everything we do is safe and legal, and thorough project planning are two things that form a huge part of our work. There’s the idea and strategy of each project. How to deliver its aims and objectives. How we’ll track and measure it’s impact, and report it back to the funders. The logistics and finances to plan, as well as countless funding and grant applications to send off, before we can get going.
And that’s on top of making sure we’re safeguarding our beneficiaries, developing our team’s skills and planning for the future. The hidden costs of running a charity really might surprise you.
“It’s an honour leading this young and ambitious charity, seeing and hearing our hard work on the ground having such a big impact to so many local people is the reason we do what we do, and why we exist.
All of our projects rely on grant funding and the harsh reality is that grant applications have never been more difficult to win. Just a few years ago you’d be likely to win one in 4 of the bids you applied for. Now that figure is more like one in 25 due to the demand and strain on charity funding.
We run extremely efficiently and don’t have the overheads many larger charities do, which means we can do a lot more work and service delivery, with less, but we’re having to become more reliant on community fundraising and that’s where you, our incredible supporters are so vital.’ – Charles Balchin – Momentum CEO
