Our Vital
Work
We work on a number of vital projects making the life-changing benefits of fitness, more accessible to local people.
From young children with, and recovering from cancer, teens suffering with obesity and inactivity as a byproduct of medication or long-term health conditions, to older adults at risk of social isolation and loneliness, our services are growing and impacting many locally.
Learn more about some of our core projects below:
Project:PB-Active
For children and young people especially, being active during and after treatment can simply provide an opportunity to feel like themselves again.
Through our exercise therapy sessions, we focus on supporting children to find joy in movement again. Through the delivery of personalised exercise programmes, we help patients to maintain and improve their strength and physical fitness.
Project:PB-Active is delivered in partnership with the NHS at the Piam Brown Ward at Southampton General Hospital and at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth. Some sessions take place on the ward but the majority now take place at our gym location in Eastleigh, Hampshire, where we’re able to have the greatest impact.
Project:FitForLife
FitForLife is our over 55’s project for local people looking to get more active!
Focussed around older adults at risk of social isolation and loneliness, this project has fantastic impacts on it’s participants, including improved mood and confidence to exercise, increasing purpose and social network.
We initially offer a fully funded 12 week programming which is led by 2 qualified coaches, teaching mobility, strength and conditioning through functional fitness which replicate everyday movement paterns. These movement patterns could be walking with kettlebells replicating carrying shopping bags, box step-ups helping to stregthen stair climbing, or pushing a weighted sled, replicating mowing the lawn or pushing a shopping trolley.
Following completion of the 12-week course, we aim that participants will feel more confident to engage in their preferred forms of exercise. As an alternative to this, we also offer a timetable of almost daily follow-on classes that attendees are welcome attend on a donation basis.
